Robbie's career dilemma - pop star or social worker Part 2
Robbie's career dilemma - pop star or social worker Part 2
Sorry seem to have left the end of the article out. So here it is:
After a series of notes about cancelled appointments, the next entry, on September 3, 1990, breaks the news of the 16-year-old's imminent signing with Take That.
The final entry says simply: 'Now signed contract with RCA Records...Lives in Stockport with group.'
Unrecorded by the careers file, Jan had decided to take Robbie's career into her own hands.
As her son approached his exams in the summer of 1990, she heard entrepreneur Nigel Martin-Smith talking on the radio about forming a new boy band to rival the chart-topping American group New Kids On The Block.
Pretending to be her son, Jan sent a photo of Robbie to Mr Martin-Smith asking for an audition - which Robbie flew through and joined the group.
And the rest, as they say, is history...
