Lothar Matthäus, who attained 150 caps for Germany and a World Cup Winners medal in 1990, and Robbie Williams have hit it off. According to the German, who met Robbie at the UNICEF benefit game in Manchester; 'Robbie is not only a great singer, but also very congenial and open-hearted'.

'It's as if I've known him for years.' said Matthäus, who has invited him to a private lunch, when Robbie stops off in Munich during the German leg of his world tour.

'We've exchanged telephone numbers so will be staying in contact' explains Mätthaus, who was positively surprised at the footballing talents of Robbie Williams, declaring his football game to be almost as good as his stage show.
