"Robbie Williams is the Beckenbauer of his Team"
"Robbie Williams is the Beckenbauer of his Team"
The first of the news updates from this week
For Stephan Michme, Morning-Show-Moderator from Radio Fritz, the pop radio station of the Berlin-Brandenburg public broadcaster, it was a once in a life time experience. He was allowed to play against Giga-Star Robbie Williams in the Jahn-Sportpark in Prenzlauer Berg. (as reported).
"Robbie plays left back. He was heavily involved in his teams play, a classic English Kick'n'Rush game. He is a superb player, the Beckenbauer of his team," told us Michme, who has played the last 8 years for the "Fritz-Soccer-Team", a team made up of Fritz employees and listeners. The team plays in Berlin and Brandenburg and was founded by Moderator Michael "MC" Lücke.
How did it come about that he had a game againt Robbie Williams, his background singers and stagehands? The week before, Robbie's tour management phoned up and asked for a game. One had heard of the Fritz-Soccer-Team, not only because Radio Fritz is the media partner for the Berlin concerts in the Olympic Stadium. "We presented Robbie with a shirt with his name and the number 8 at the end of the game, which we had specially made for him," said Michme. "In return he let us have some concert tickets."
Yesterday (Tuesday 25.07.), Robbie spent the day in his hotel, the Ritz Carlton on Potsdamer Platz. The photographers and reporters in and in front of the hotel waited with bated breath, that Robbie at least, in
his famous underpants, would chase a Swedish groupie through the lobby or perhaps sing slighty drunkenly "God save the Queen" while hanging from the chandelier and then with a super model and a bottle Johnnie Walker disappear in the lift to his suite.
Unfortunately, like in the case of Keith Richards, who stayed at the same hotel, nothing of interest occurred, only the coming and going of the tour crew, with their exotic football shirts and at least one mobile to hand. Of course maybe Robbie was only resting, so that at night he could really paint the town red........
