Rudebox Is Number 1

Robbie topped the album charts yesterday, when new album Rudebox crashed into the No.1 slot in the UK charts.

Elbowing out the The Killers, whose album Sam's Town had been hogging the top spot, Rudebox is already a record-breaker. It's Robbie's eighth solo album number one, equalling David Bowie's record. Only Elvis, as a solo male artist, has had more album chart-toppers.

Thanks to everyone who bought the album and made this happen!

And it's not just UK fans who've gone made for Rudebox. The album entered many international charts too, including scoring a few more No.1 positions:

Argentina No.1
Australia No.1
Austria No.1
Germany No.1
Italy No.1
Ireland No.2
Holland No.2
Mexico No.3
Chile No.3

Noel snub for Robbie apology

NOEL GALLAGHER has revealed ROBBIE WILLIAMS sent Oasis a grovelling apology for his song slagging off him and LIAM.

I uncovered Robbie’s cheeky tune, where he berated Liam for being inbred, last month.

And after I printed the lyrics to D***head, a secret track on No1 album Rudebox, Robbie fired off a desperate note to Oasis’ management trying to get out of trouble.

Noel told me of the contents of the paranoid email during the Q Awards held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel yesterday. And he dished out a trademark slating to his old adversary into the bargain.

Noel said: “I read your story about the song. I haven’t heard the album — I doubt I will — apparently that’s the best track on it.

“He sent this note to our office claiming he didn’t know it was on the album. He can f*** right off. I don’t give a f*** what he thinks and I don’t give a f*** about him.”

I can also reveal the contents of Robbie’s grovelling email.

Take That Back Robbie

Robbie Williams' new dance album 'Rudebox' has been given the seal of approval by none other than his old band mates, Take That.

His new disc might have hit the top spot in the album charts this week but it has been panned by critics who say his new hip hop and dance direction leaves a lot to be desired.

The long-player has also sold less in its first week of release than any of his other previous no 1 albums.

But old Take That bezzy Mark Owen said the doubters should leave Rob alone.

Talking to MTV News he said, "The album is No 1, so that's fantastic."

He went on, "I like the new direction Rob's gone in. It's good that he's doing something a little different and he's always been a fan of rap so he's doing something he's been into since he was a kid. Plus I like his track suits!"

There you go Robbie, an ardent fan!

Meanwhile humble Mark said he wasn't expecting the That's first single in ten years, 'Patience', to hit the Christmas No 1, despite chart predictions.

"We're not expecting that at all, or for it to be how it used to be. We just want the album to do well.

"We're really excited about it all and it's nice to be back on MTV - we haven't been on it for a couple of years!"

Bandmate Howard Donald chipped in, "We've been away for ten years so there might be people out there who don't accept us."

With the exception of the Arctic Monkeys, boys, we don't think you have anything to worry about...

Robbie ready for action

Robbie Williams has requested injections of vitamin B while touring Australia - perhaps to boost his sex drive.

The singer has also told organisers he wants extra soft toilet paper and a game of five-a-side soccer in which he must be challenged and not allowed to win.

"Robbie plays a tough game," said tour promoter Michael Chugg. "We all stand around praying he doesn't break a leg."

Mr Chugg would not speculate on why Williams wanted a vitamin shot. But asked if it might be for his sex drive, he said: "It wouldn't surprise me".

Let Us Entertain You, Mr Williams

Youngsters are hoping to impress Robbie Williams with a film recreating his childhood.

Members of the award-winning Stanfields Youth Inclusion Project (YIP) - who are themselves growing up on the superstar's old stomping ground of Burslem - are taking part in a competition being run on his website.

The group are producing a film complementing one of his new songs 'The 80s' in which he sings about growing up in the Potteries Mother Town.

As part of their mission, they are following their own Robbie-like teenager as he gets involved in the same adventures as the man himself - such as visiting Vale Park, where young Robbie spent many a happy Saturday afternoon.

The roles of actors, writers and crew have been split between the 25-strong group.

Their production will also form part of the Projecting Stoke scheme, run by Birmingham-based Hi8us Midlands.

Robbie Williams has had sex in trains, planes and wine bars!

'Let Me Entertain You' singer Robbie Williams says he loves experiencing sexual thrills in public places.

Robbie, who has dated a string of celebrities including model Rachel Hunter and singer Nicole Appleton, credits his excessive use of drink and drugs during his early career for awakening his appetite for induling in sex at restricted areas.

"When I used to take drugs, you lose your inhibitions. I've had sex in trains, planes and wine bars. And quite a few car parks," The Post Chronicle quoted him, as
telling Britain's More magazine.

The heartthrob also confesses he fancies Madonna, and would love to get up close and personal with her.

"Even when I'm going out with a girl, I could be home watching TV and a famous girl will come out and I'll think, 'Oh, I fancy her.' Madonna is one of those women," he said.

But, the singer further insists that casual relationships no longer appeal to him because he can't be bothered with the aftermath.

"I suppose one-night stands are becoming too much of a palaver. If a girl comes to my place, nine out of 10 times you will not want to see her in the morning. So these days I can't really be bothered," said the Angels star.

Robbie shoots from the nip

ROBBIE WILLIAMS had a Wild West celebration as his new album went to No1 in the midweek charts.

Rob rode into Mexico City on his Close Encounters tour and Rude-ly flashed his bare nipple to the crowd.

His CD Rudebox sold more than 55,000 copies on Monday, the first day of release.

And he now looks sure to land a massive No1 on Sunday.

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE are trailing at No2 with 34,000 sales of their album The Black Parade.

Robbie will be hugely boosted by Rudebox’s bumper sales after its alternative style suffered mixed reviews.

But despite the solo glory, it seems he has not totally turned his back on TAKE THAT.

GARY BARLOW has now insisted Robbie WILL get back on stage with his old muckers.

Talking about the night Robbie was due to join the band on their comeback tour, Gary told Attitude magazine: “If he’d shown up with us that night, I’d probably have been the most happy.

“But it’s coming, that day, when we all get on stage together as a five-piece — even if just to wave at the crowd.

“It’s one of those inevitable things to me, that one day we’ll all be publicly together again for a moment — one day soon.”

Gary added: “We met Robbie halfway through our tour and, because we know him really well, he’d say something one night and the next day it would change.

“But when he agreed to record the hologram projection of Could It Be Magic for us, I was more than happy. It was really sweet of him.”

Robbie heading for number one spot

Robbie Williams is heading for the top of the charts with his new album - but sales are significantly down on his last effort.

Rudebox is on course to shift close to 200,000 albums by the end of the week, according to industry estimates.

Williams is on target to make the number one spot this Sunday, comfortably outselling his nearest rivals.

But it is a far cry from his last album, Intensive Care, which gave the pop star his highest ever first week sales of 373,832.

Rudebox has received mixed reviews from the critics, with one dubbing it "his strangest album to date" and another calling it an "absolute howler".

The title track reached only number four in the singles chart.

But the news is not all bad.

Rudebox will become Williams' eighth solo number one album - a feat matched only by David Bowie for a British artist.

HMV's Gennaro Castaldo said: "If Robbie delivers his eighth UK solo number one, he will match David Bowie and go only two behind Elvis Presley.

"It will also be his 11th number one in total if you include his success with Take That. It reaffirms Robbie's position as the UK's number one artist, and there's every chance he will match and then overtake Elvis's longstanding record with his future releases."

Williams' 'Special Olympics' lyric upsets disabled

Pop star Robbie Williams has been slammed by disabled organisations after a lyric on his new album calls for fans to "dance like you just won the Special Olympics".

Williams' latest disc, Rudebox, is released this week and the unedited version of the title track has angered many.

When released as a single the word "special" was cut from Rudebox to avoid offending listeners - but the uncensored version is on the album.

Anne Pridmore, chairwoman of the British Council Of Disabled People, says, "I am a big Robbie Williams fan and I went to see him recently, but I will not be buying this album.

"I find the lyric about the Special Olympics highly offensive and it is rank disablism."

But Williams' spokeswoman says, "He adores sport of any kind and is full of admiration for disabled athletes."

Mums the Word over Robbie's new Rudebox

Just like millions of adoring fans, Robbie Williams's mum Jan was still eagerly waiting to hear her son's latest album this weekend.

Jan receives copies of Robbie's albums before their official release, but by the weekend she was still waiting to hear the final version of Rudebox, which was released today.

However, Robbie has kept his mum well informed of the creative processes poured into the album, which he describes as a departure from his normal work.

Jan has heard demo versions of the songs on her son's ninth album - but wants to hear the polished version before she passes comment on Rudebox itself.

She said: "I did see some rough stuff from the beginning of things and there were a lot of references to Stoke-on-Trent in them.

"He's very excited about it and I know he has really enjoyed doing it."

Robbie, aged 32, worked with fellow Stoke-on-Trent musicians Kelvin Andrews and Danny Spencer on the album, who perform together as dance act Soul Mekanik.

He enjoyed working with his ST5 collaborators so much that he has shown off his Potteries roots in Rudebox more than on any of his previous albums.

Writing on his website about the title track of his album and first single, Rudebox, Robbie says: "Danny and Kelvin sent me the basic drum beat and it just became a floor-shaker, with lyrics straight out of Stoke-on-Trent.

"When we get in the studio we gel and we know where we are going; we get excited when it's right."

Jan added: "With the three of them being Stokies it was a very easy ride."

Signal 1's Andy Goulding also has high expectations of the new album. He said: "It's the album that he really wanted to make - he has done it for himself instead of the record company or his fans."

Sales are expected to be high for the new release. Mark Dunning, supervisor at HMV in the Potteries Shopping Centre, Hanley, said the store anticipated high numbers buying it.

He said: "Robbie's album is one of the biggest to go on sale at this time of the year and we expect there will be steady sales throughout Monday."

Robbie Williams would quit pop for love

Robbie Williams has promised not to quit pop music unless he falls in love.

The Rudebox singer claims that his work gives him "a purpose" and believes that the only reason to quit would be if he wanted to spend more time with a serious girlfriend.

"There is always a song to be written. Until this dies within me, I will continue," he explained. "If I fall in love and want to travel around the world with that person, then perhaps I will stop. But I am not in love. I have work to do which gives me a purpose in life."

Robbie moons MTV audience

ROBBIE Williams' bottom and a band that dresses like furry bunnies graced MTV's 2006 Latin America Music Awards, where reggaeton sensation Daddy Yankee won top prize for artist of the year.

MTV made a triumphant return to Mexico today after Hurricane Wilma ruined last year's ceremony just hours before it was to begin on a pristine Caribbean beach. This year's ceremony is the first to take place outside Miami.

"MTV finally understood that Miami is not Latin America," said presenter and actor Diego Luna as some 10,000 attendees cheered.
Britain's Robbie Williams, who won best international pop artist, gave the audience an eye-full before performing Rock DJ when he pulled his pants down and mooned the audience.

Daddy Yankee, who helped spread catchy reggaeton music – a fiery mix of reggae and hip hop – from dance floors in New York's Bronx to Venezuela's posh clubs, said his music was no short-lived trend.

"Reggaeton made the change in music. Reggaeton is here to stay, that's what people showed us," the Puerto Rican singer said.

Colombia's Shakira went home with the tongue-shaped award for song of the year forHips don't lie from her second English-language album, Oral Fixation Vol. 2.

Mexican singer and accordion player Julieta Venegas' six nominations turned into just a single win for best performer of the year.

But Mexican indie act Panda won in three categories – best band, best alternative artist, and newcomer of the year.

MTV set up a green carpet at the Palacio de los Deportes dome, in southern Mexico City, where artists and guests paraded before screaming fans while television crews and photographers elbowed for room.

Clad in their trademark white bunny outfits to keep their identities a secret, members of the Mexican band Austin TV joked with fans.

Mexican band Mana won video of the year and best rock artist plus a special award to honour their two decades in the music business.

Robbie Williams: Rudebox - An Album Review

Heralded by the graceless title-track single, with its ghastly white-boy rapping ("Sing a song of Semtex/ Pocketful of Durex/ Party full of Mandrax/ Are we gonna have sex?"), Rudebox is Robbie Williams's putative dance album, at once a tribute to the electropop soundtrack of his youth and - in tracks like "Burslem Normals", "The Eighties" and "The Nineties" - a reflection on his life since. In general, it's best when the Pet Shop Boys are involved and worst when Robbie raps: even less appealing than "Rudebox" itself is "Keep On", a nonsense babble-rap of vocal bric-a-brac that incorporates a namecheck of the Wu-Tang Clan, doubtless to their eternal chagrin.

Most of the CD falls between these poles, with spartan techno grooves beneath tracks like "Never Touch That Switch", "Kiss Me" and a cover of Lewis Taylor's "Lovelight". The album is top-heavy with smug celebrity self-referentiality - not just from Williams, but from his showbiz chums too: having the Pet Shop Boys produce and sing on a cover of My Robot Friend's "We're the Pet Shop Boys" must have seemed a terrific wheeze in the studio, but their further collaboration on "She's Madonna" rather gives the lie to its pay-off line "She's Madonna/ No man on earth could say that he don't wanna". Both tracks, however, have a sleek appeal absent from the rest of the album.

There are moments of respite from the overall brittle, synthetic sheen. "Good Doctor", in which Robbie appears to blame his doctor for encouraging his drug habits, has a rumbustious Jamaican R&B flavour, while the agnostic anthem "Viva Life On Mars" employs an engaging blend of blues guitar, harmonica, banjo and hip-house groove. Less agreeable is his cover of Manu Chao's "Bongo Bong/ Je Ne T'Aime Plus", a limp slice of cod-reggae pop-soul.

The album is, in musical terms, probably his most intriguing, but its biggest stumbling-block is Williams's lyrical pretensions. It's one thing to reiterate the Pet Shop Boys' reference to Yevtushenko's To the Finland Station, and another thing entirely to imagine one might usher a glimpse of insight into "The Eighties" through a collage of apparently random pop-culture references and biographical details. "Things are better when they start," he decides: "That's how the Eighties broke my heart." Things are certainly better than in "The Nineties", which means a recounting of the Take That story stuffed with self-justification and bruising insults aimed at his former bandmates. As the hidden track "Dickhead" suggests, bad-mouthing may turn out to be his most natural talent.

Counterfeit Robbie goods set to clothe East European poor

Thousands of pounds worth of fake Robbie Williams clothing is to find a good home in impoverished parts of Eastern Europe.

The move follows a operation by Milton Keynes Council Trading Standards officers.

Dozens of rogue traders were caught selling more than a thousand counterfeit T-shirts and sweatshirts, bearing the superstar’s trademark, during his recent five-day gig at the National Bowl.

Trading Standards officers were joined by colleagues from Environmental Health, the Safer Communities Unit and Milton Keynes police.

The items seized will now be donated to His Church, a registered charity that distributes to orphans and homeless people in Eastern Europe.

Head of Trading Standards Ken Searle said: “We are determined not to let Milton Keynes get a reputation as somewhere where sales of fake products will go unchallenged.

“Counterfeiting of clothing, DVDs or any other products undermines the investment of the legitimate manufacturer and threatens the livelihood of reputable retailers in the city.

“It’s a crime that can carry a hefty fine or a jail sentence. The products are often of poor quality as well. So our message to the public is ‘put the pirates out of business – don’t buy from them’.”

Robbie: Liam is an ugly inbred

ONE of the biggest feuds in the history of rock n’ roll is about to kick off AGAIN.

I have uncovered a secret track recorded by ROBBIE WILLIAMS which slags off arch-rival LIAM GALLAGHER for being INBRED.

In Give Pies A Chance — a play on JOHN LENNON’s famous peace lyrics — Robbie sings a list of insults slating the Oasis frontman.

The abuse includes taunts about the Gallaghers’ looks and career, dubbing them Monkey Boys with Monotone eyebrows. It goes on to claim they’re: “Unemployed since being here right now.”

On the delicate issue of Liam’s ex, PATSY KENSIT, Robbie adds: Your Mrs fancies me — bet she wishes she’d waited ’til I was shifting units.

Ouch.

A source said: “Robbie recorded the track with songwriting partner GUY CHAMBERS when they were working on Sing When You’re Winning — their third album together back in 2000.

“They had two No1 albums under their belt at the time and were feeling pretty confident.

“The song ended up on the cutting room floor when they realised the almighty stink it would cause.”

Robbie and the Gallaghers did have a brief spell as boozing buddies at Glastonbury in the summer of 1995.

But things deteriorated rapidly.

NOEL famously labelled Rob “the fat dancer from TAKE THAT.”

Robbie retaliated, sending a wreath to The Sun to pass on to Oasis when their album Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants was released in 2000.

He included the message: “Just heard your latest album — RIP.”

When Robbie sold out Knebworth for three consecutive nights in 2003 — beating the two Oasis did in 1996 — he sent Noel a pair of tap dancing shoes with another message. It read: “Dear Mr N Gallagher, you said two nights at Knebworth is history. Well, I guess three is just greedy.
“Yours, Rob. PS: Finding it difficult to find adequate support for my show. What are you doing on the 1st and 2nd? Oh, and the 3rd?”

Pop god Rob also caused trouble with a track called Ghosts on his last album Intensive Care — about his bedroom antics with NICOLE APPLETON — now Liam’s fiancée.

At the time he said: “It’ll really fry the balding, pot-bellied ****’s head.”

Robbie is touring Argentina at the moment while Liam prepares for the launch of greatest hits album Stop The Clocks next month.

Just as well. I reckon the further apart they are, the better.

Meanwhile, Robbie has once again threatened to quit touring.
He recently cancelled the Asian leg of his Close Encounters show and yesterday morning told Radio 2’s Ken Bruce: “I will probably never go on tour after this. That is unless I’ve got a divorce to pay for or a family and I want to get out of the house.

“I love talking about my songs on radio but you can do that for three and a half minutes and go home.”

Rob and Jas are geri-That-trics

What a difference a decade has made to former Take That heart-throbs Robbie Williams and Jason Orange.

The pair seem to have gone from all the rage to premature old age since the boy band broke up in 1996.

Robbie was snapped flaunting his paunch in an unflattering dressing gown and towel combo by his hotel pool before two sell-out shows in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Meanwhile, former Take That colleague Jason is living proof that Everything Changes — including the thickness of your thatch.

My snap right — taken when Jason was out for lunch in London — shows that nowadays his scalp is getting more exposure than his career.
