The Get Well Robbie Circus
The Get Well Robbie Circus
The "Sun" has decided if you're going to send Robbie messages of support then you'll need to send them via the "Sun". Robbie's mum, Jan says she'll be taking them along to show him when he gets out of the clinic.
Funnily enough the "Sentinel", the local Stoke paper, has had the same story running for about two weeks, before it appeared in Victoria Newton's Bizarre Column and it reports only that Jan Williams would perhaps take the messages to show Robbie. Victoria has even gone to great lengths to put together this high quality get well card (see image, at least it's the right person in the photo) for us to print out so we can write our personal greetings to Robbie and then post it or email it to the Sun. Remember this is the Victoria Newton who totally destroyed Robbie's "Rudebox" album, but still claims to be his favourite entertainment columnist (who's she trying to kid).
Fortunately I'm not the only one who finds this all rather cheap and tacky with No Rock and Roll Fun posting the following in their blog:
Always one to spot an opportunity for a branding exercise, Victoria Newton (or perhaps Emma Pryer) has come up with this horrible item, instructing us to print it out, fill it in, and send it to her to dump in the recycling bins at Wapping ("pass on to Robbie for when he comes out. Of hospital.") It does have his face on it, so perhaps that'll make up for the otherwise totally crappy nature of the "I almost thought of you" message - it's not even foldable, it's a flat picture of a stand-up card.
Even the "Daily Mirror" couldn't resist commenting:
And we doubt he'll be cheered up by the weedy efforts of a downmarket "columnist" who (to hide the fact that she had no stories) printed a "get well" card and begged readers to send it to Robbie - even though he's not allowed mail in his clinic.
Miaow!
At least we can rely on the girls at 3am from the "Daily Mirror" to stick to bashing Robbie. They were positively overjoyed that Robbie won the Worst Album of 2006 at the NME Awards from "real music lovers" (OK they're so real that My Chemical Romance’s album, The Black Parade, was up for Best Album and Worst Album!?!). They even offered to deliver the award personally.
Furthermore they reported when the award was read out it was met with a chorus of boos (make what you will of that) and that Noel Gallagher was the first to "congratulate" the star with the words: "I just wish he was here so I could say well done. I don't think even Robbie himself thinks he's a credible artist. I could talk to you for three hours about how bad he is. Worst Album isn't really an award, is it?"
But the site that wins the prize for pure cynicism must be Big Pictures and their Mr Paparazzi blog with their get well wishes. Bet their waiting cameras at the ready hoping to get a photo of Robbie a la Britney Spears.
